Light your way to energy savings
Taking steps to turn off light bulbs when they aren’t needed or switching to more energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) can have a big impact on your energy use and electricity bill.

The Eugene Water & Electric Board, in cooperation with the federal government’s ENERGY STAR® program, often offers rebates, coupons or other incentives to help homeowners and renters reduce their electricity consumption.

When you replace light bulbs or entire light fixtures in your home with ones that have earned the ENERGY STAR® label, you also contribute to a cleaner environment while saving energy, money and time buying and changing lights in your home.

ENERGY STAR® qualified compact fluorescent lighting uses two-thirds less energy than traditional lighting products and lasts six to 10 times longer. Replacing a 100-watt incandescent bulb with a 32-watt CFL can save you up to $30 in energy costs over the life of the bulb.

Change a Light, Change the World
Read about special savings on specialty CFLs at select locations through September 2008.

Learn more about CFLs by going to the ENERGY STAR® web site.

EWEB offers coupons
EWEB also is offering incentives for new energy efficient lighting fixtures. If you are an EWEB residential electric customer, use the coupons for $20 toward an ENERGY STAR® indoor fixture and $10 toward an ENERGY STAR® outdoor fixture.

The coupons are part of a regional promotion to encourage the use of energy efficient lighting that can save you energy and money while protecting the environment.

ENERGY STAR® lighting fixtures carry a two-year warranty, which is double the industry standard. The lamps typically last up to 20,000 hours. That means, with regular use, you won’t need to change the bulb for at least seven years.

How to participate:

  • Request one or more fixture rebate coupon from Energy Management Services by calling EWEB at (541) 484-1125.
  • Select a qualifying ENERGY STAR® interior or exterior fixture at one of the participating retailers listed below.
  • Present the coupons upon checkout and receive a $10 or $20 discount at the time of purchase (limit of eight coupons each for both indoor and outdoor fixtures per customer, one coupon per fixture).

Where to get fixtures:

  • Brighter Homes Lighting, 1968 West 6th Avenue, Eugene
  • Jerry’s Home Improvement Centers, 2660 Highway 99 N, Eugene and 2525 Olympic Street, Springfield
  • Home Depot, 1045 Green Acres Road, Eugene and 808 Seneca Road, Eugene

Recycle your CFLs and linear tubes
Fluorescent lights (CFLs and linear tubes) should be disposed of properly with other household hazardous waste products. Learn about a convenient residential recycling program for spent CFLs and linear fluorescent tubes.
