  About Eugene

Serving the community

As a citizen-owned municipal utility, the Eugene Water & Electric Board sees its role in the community as more than a provider of water and electricity. We take pride in participating in many community activities, events and special programs.

Education programs and grants
EWEB believes in the importance of educating today’s youth about energy and water resources. The utility provides more than $500,000 annually to support such programs.

Low-income assistance
EWEB offers several programs aimed at helping low-income customers who are having difficulty paying their utility bills.

Recreational opportunities
From trails along the Walterville Power Canal to boating and fishing at Carmen Reservoir on the upper McKenzie River, EWEB provides numerous recreational opportunities.

Environmental programs and projects
We believe that environmental protection and enhancement are sound business practices that benefit the ecological and economic health of our community, support a sustainable future, and enhance EWEB’s success as a publicly owned utility.

Community events
The utility supports a number of community events, from the Eugene Celebration to the annual Solar Challenge race for middle school students.

Contributions In Lieu of Taxes
As a public utility that pays no property taxes, EWEB instead gives 6 percent of its revenues to the city of Eugene as a payment in lieu of taxes.
