Privacy statement
The Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) collects and maintains personal information
regarding its customers. It is the policy of EWEB to only collect information necessary
to conduct EWEB operations. EWEB strives to protect the information from being accessed
by unauthorized individuals. Security measures are implemented to prevent such inappropriate
access, including, but not limited to:
- Use of firewalls and other network appliances to limit access from the Internet.
- Use of passwords and other authentication techniques for access to customer data.
- Use of physical access controls for access to customer databases.
- Use of encryption technologies for transmitting customer data via the Internet.
- Requiring callers to identify themselves before releasing information over the phone.
- Utilizing passwords on customer accounts when requested by individuals.
The EWEB does not sell customer information to third parties, but it may reveal
such information to third parties conducting business on behalf of EWEB. In those
cases, EWEB requires the recipient of customer information to agree to maintain
the privacy and confidentiality of the customer information.
Through this statement, EWEB attempts to provide customers with a comprehensive
list of situations where EWEB intends to share personal information without your
prior approval. Examples include:
- EWEB provides personal information to collection agencies regarding customer accounts
that are seriously delinquent, for the express purpose of aiding the agency in locating
the responsible individual(s).
- EWEB will share personal subject information with credit reporting bureaus necessary
to ascertain an individual's identity and determine if the individual is a minor,
at the time they seek EWEB services.
- EWEB will share personal subject information with credit reporting bureaus necessary
obtain credit score information, only when and if a customer specifically requests
us to do so, or if the customer is applying for a loan.
- EWEB will share credit card information with credit card processing agencies necessary
to process payments as requested by customers or as requested by the processor for
troubleshooting or correction of errors.
- EWEB shares contact information (name, address, phone number) with a high volume
Outage Call Center so that the center may identify in-bound callers as EWEB customers.
- EWEB may share contact information (name, address, phone number) with agencies retained
by EWEB to conduct customer/market surveys.
- EWEB shares account information with the City of Eugene for accounts that are responsible
for city services (i.e. sewer, stormwater). The City agrees, in writing, to utilize
this information only for the purpose of billing, collecting and managing accounts
related to sewer and stormwater billing.
- EWEB will share personal information requested in a Court subpoena or other order
of the Court.
- EWEB will share information that is requested for release subject to Oregon Public
Records Law (ORS 192), unless that information is protected from disclosure by statute.
