The headquarters building
EWEB constructed the current 100,000-square-foot headquarters building in 1988.
It houses just over half of the utility’s 500 employees. The building and
other site improvements were financed with about $25 million in voter-approved bonds.
The headquarters consists of a main administration building and the North Building,
which houses meeting rooms and a cafeteria. The meeting rooms are open to the public,
usually free of charge.
The headquarters, including the North Building, were constructed at a cost of $12.4
million. This includes $10.7 million for the building; $1.1 million on parking,
landscaping, pedestrian walkways and the plaza; $85,393 on artwork, and nearly $600,000
on furnishings and other office equipment.
In addition, EWEB spent an additional $10 million on a new computerized communications
and security system for all its substations and other facilities; a new equipment
repair building, and upgrades to the vehicle shop and other facilities.
EWEB owes about $6.2 million on the original bonds. Annual payments already are
built into rates. The bonds are scheduled to be paid off in 2011.
