West 27th Avenue pump station rebuild
EWEB inspected all of the distribution system pump stations in 2004 to evaluate the condition,
identify any needed repairs and prioritize upgrades.
EWEB's water engineers identified the pump station located at West 27th Avenue and City View (City View 975
Pump Station) as needing to be replaced due to poor ventilation in the existing building, power quality issues
and the age of the existing equipment.
The existing pump station was built in 1966 and supplies water to the City View 975
Reservoir located near 29th Avenue and City View. This reservoir serves approximately 1,200 area customers.
EWEB will begin to make needed improvements at the pump station site in November 2009. Customers should not
notice any change in their water service during this time. West 27th Avenue will remain open during
construction but the public is urged to watch for truck traffic during the project.
Work planned at the site includes:
- Construction of a masonry building to house new equipment
- Installation of a paved driveway for improved EWEB vehicle access
- Installation of stormwater drains
- Installation of a utility pole for improved radio communications
Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2009 and will take between 6 and 8 months to complete.
Typical hours for construction activities are weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The site will be re-vegetated after the construction work is complete. EWEB will use native plants to
create a natural looking transition to the existing forested backdrop. An example of what the new pump
station will look like once it is completed can be seen at the Shasta 975 Pump Station located near
35th Avenue and Agate Street.
