Carmen-Smith is a network of three dams and reservoirs and two power-generating plants located just a few miles downstream from the headwaters of the McKenzie River. EWEB recently submitted a modified Settlement Agreement that addresses the economic realities of the region’s energy markets, while honoring our original commitment to environmental and recreational enhancements at the project.
Part of being a public utility is understanding how you—our customer-owners—rate our performance, and making decisions that reflect the values and choices of the community.
In order to meet customer affordability expectations, General Manager Frank Lawson wants to trim $15 million and some 60 employees from EWEB’s annual budget by 2020.
EWEB is in the process of relicensing our Carmen-Smith Hydroelectric Project to operate for at least 40 more years. Replacing the massive turbine shut-off valves is one of the first key steps in the powerhouse modernization project.
