EWEB developed the Greenpower Grant Program in 2008. Grant funding comes from voluntary Greenpower customer subscriptions. Since the program began thousands of customers have chose to support clean, renewable energy by enrolling in EWEB Greenpower.

The purpose of the $50,000 Greenpower Grant is to provide financial support for a project that helps our community reduce carbon emissions. The project could include installation of renewable energy systems, battery storage systems, research or studies on renewable energy, educational curriculum or workshop development, or carbon emission offsets.

The grant is offered every other year. The 2025 Greenpower Grant was awarded to SquareOne Villages.

Applications for the next Greenpower Grant will open in early 2027. Greenpower subscribers vote to determine the grant recipient.

In addition to buying renewable energy and funding the Greenpower Grant, Greenpower subscribers fund EWEB's solar electric program and K-12 education and events relating to renewable energy and carbon emissions.

SquareOne Villages awarded the 2025 Greenpower Grant

We are excited to announce that SquareOne Villages has been awarded the 2025 Greenpower Grant!

We received seven applications supporting local sustainability projects this year and Greenpower subscribers participated in a voting process to select the winner. Applications included an array of projects, including rooftop solar installations, electric work vehicles and neighborhood tree planting efforts. Voting for the Greenpower Grant was open to all current Greenpower subscribers.

SquareOne Village

SquareOne Villages is a community land trust, with a mission of creating democratic communities with homes that are permanently affordable and environmentally sustainable. We develop affordable housing co-ops for individuals, couples and small families living on low to very low incomes, who have a critical need for quality, safe, permanently affordable housing. Lack of affordable housing is the main driver of the high rate of homelessness in Lane County. We are planning to use the 2025 Greenpower Grant award to support the purchase and installation of a 172.43 KW photovoltaic system at our Rosa Village Co-op being constructed in the Trainsong Neighborhood. The system will supply power to all 52 residential homes, as well as the Common house, significantly reducing electrical usage and lowering operating costs. SquareOne prioritizes sustainability and energy efficiency in every aspect of development, designing homes to minimize energy consumption to create resilient, low-impact housing. SquareOne is honored to be selected for EWEB’s 2025 Greenpower Grant,” says Andrew Heben, Executive Director at SquareOne Villages. “We are committed to making progress on the intertwined issues of housing affordability and climate change.

“This grant will help us advance that commitment by funding a solar photovoltaic system at our upcoming Rosa Village Co-op, which will include 52 new resident-owned homes that will be permanently affordable and deeply energy efficient.”

We look forward to following along with SquareOne Village's project over the next year and are excited to see their continued success helping our community!
