Amazon Emergency Water Station Demonstration - Save the Date!

Mark your calendars! On Saturday, September 28, Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB),the City of Eugene and the Eugene Family YMCA are holding a ribbon cutting and demonstration event at a new Emergency Water Station site on September 28. The station is located in Amazon Park just south of the YMCA (see map below).

After a brief ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m., the public is invited to fill water containers and learn how the emergency water station operates. Attendees will:

  • Receive a free 3-gallon emergency water storage container – one per family while supplies last!
  • Participate in operating the emergency water station from filling to sanitizing.
  • Learn how our community is preparing for emergencies and how to get prepared at home.
  • Enjoy family activities like coloring and water storage container decorating.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a wagon or grocery cart as a 3-gallon water container weighs 25 pounds when filled and will be difficult to carry.

Parking:

During this event, the YMCA parking lot is very likely to fill up. Here are some ways attendees can plan to beat the crowd:

  • Consider walking to the event. Nearby residents are encouraged to walk to the station, if practical.
  • Park in an alternate lot. Overflow parking may be available in the Amazon Ballfields Parking Lot or Amazon Pool Parking Lot. Check these lots if YMCA parking is full.

Again, bringing a wagon or cart is highly encouraged to transport filled water containers longer distances.

Why do we need Emergency Water Stations?

Imagine a natural disaster like an earthquake hits Eugene and damages the pipelines that deliver water to your home. It may take days, weeks, or even months to get water flowing back to your tap.

Where should you go to access water? Your local Emergency Water Station.

EWEB’s Emergency Water Stations have the capacity to provide two gallons of water per person per day to everyone in Eugene during an emergency.
