Wind Storm Causes Scattered Outages

Udpate (7:30 a.m., 4/8/17): As of about 3:45 a.m. we were down to  under 400 customers out. Crews will work until everyone is restored. This is the final website update.

Update (9:30 p.m.): About 1,700 customers remain without power. Crews are going strong and will continue to work through the night. The crew at Saratoga should be finishing soon and will move on to Horn Lane, which is estimated to be restored before dawn.

Update (8 p.m.): About 460 customers in the 7th & Lawrence area have been restored. The remainder of the customers in the Gilham/Meyers area have also been restored. At this point, there are about 2,000 customers without power in town and another 200 upriver.

Update (7:15 p.m.): Crews have restored about 560 customers in the area of Gilham and Meyers. About 40 customers are still without power in that neighborhood. Crews need to repair a broken power pole to complete.

Update (6:15 p.m.): Crews are now en route to the following locations: Lorane Hwy (Crews are assessing and making safe and this area is next in line for repair.), 3900 block of Coburg Road, Sprague Road, Willagillespie/Cal Young.

Update (4:15 p.m.): Crews will continue working through the night, but at this point it's looking likely that some neighborhoods will be without power until late tomorrow.

As of the 3 p.m. briefing, about 4,000 customers are still without power. Crews are working on 3 feeder lines that serve hundreds of customers each in the Howard Rd, Thurston, and Bethel areas. They expect feeder line repairs to be complete by 7 p.m.

After the feeder lines are restored, crews will move to smaller tap lines that serve 20 to a few hundred customers.

We will keep working until everyone is restored, but we are advising customers to be prepared to be without power until tomorrow afternoon or evening.

Update (2:10 p.m.): Crews are working in the following locations: Highway 126, Thurston near 52nd Ave., Howard Ave., Gilham and Meyers, Saratoga and Fox Hollow. When crews finish at these locations and are re-assigned, we will post another update.

Update (1 p.m.): Crews have restored just over 2,000 customers so far. About 4,000 are still without power. Updates are posted as soon as they become available.

Update (11:45 a.m.): The two transmission lines are now back in service, and six of the eight feeders that went down have been repaired. Currently estimate that about 4,800 customers remain without power. The situation seems to be stabilizing with no further damage reports in the past few hours. Most assessments are complete and crews are now being assigned to specific customer outage locations.

Update (10:10 a.m.): Multiple lines and poles down on Highway 126. Crews are working in the area to restore power to about 325 customers. Current estimated restoration time is 2 p.m. Please note, restoration times are subject to change. We will continue to provide updates as they are available.

Update (9:45 a.m.): Crews continue to work as quickly as they can while maintaining safety. Currently there are about 5,875 customer without power.

About 6,200 customers across our service territory lost power early this morning due to high winds in the area. We have 10 crews in the field assessing damage, responding to downed wires, and working on restoration to the system. Crews are on-site along Highway 126 east of Thurston where there are a number of power poles down, and two transmission lines are down in other parts of the system. 

Winds are expected to continue through early afternoon today. Customers who have lost power, or experience an outage should call the EWEB outage line at 844-484-2300.   We follow a "hierarchy of repair" to make the system and the public safe first, then prioritizes outage areas with the greatest number of customers affected.
